Myrtle Beach Vacations

Make Yours an Enjoyable Experience from the Start

An Insider's Advice - Smooth Check-ins are an obtainable goal.

Are you encountering poor service on your Myrtle Beach SC vacations (or elsewhere)? Are you wondering why you should have to do anything other than maybe the occasional tip to get treated like you’re the only one arriving at the Myrtle Beach hotel or resort for that vacation you've saved for all year? What, if anything, should you have to do about it?

Here's the scenario. You've traveled from, let's say Michigan all the way down South to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Check in time is 2:00 PM and to your dismay, after literally hours and hours on the road with the kid's in the back whining "are we almost there yet", you finally are there. The line from the check-in desk is snaking into the southern sunshine up a sidewalk as far as the eye can see. When you finally get close enough to find out what's going on, the front desk clerks are checking paperwork, handing out keys, giving directions and answering questions. Why not take it out on them; everyone else is so it must be their fault. Right? Wrong.

I am not suggesting that you grin and bear it. If you have had or fear having this type of circumstance, choose one of the many Myrtle Beach Vacation Rentals that has used sound judgment to plan how it handles check in. These problems are unacceptable to guests and staff alike. Here is what you need to look for to make check in a smoother experience for you and your family.

1. When you call to make your reservation, the resort where you are staying should have a policy to have all payments made prior to check in. There is enough going on with handing out keys, giving out guest passes, and giving directions to accommodations without having to deal with exchanging funds as well.

2. Look for a place that doesn't have a strict check in - check out day. If it works for you schedule your trip from Wednesday to Wednesday instead of Saturday to Saturday.

3. Find accommodations that will allow you to check in before the check in time and have use of the amenities until your room is ready. Many resorts (like the popular Myrtle Beach Resort) have changing facilities and restaurants on the property. You can check in early enjoy the beach, the lazy river or one of the pools for a while. Grab some lunch then stop by the office for your room key. This will also sometimes get your room moved to the top of the housekeeping list.

4. Make sure the facility that you choose emails or mails you a confirmation. Check your paperwork to see that it shows your balance as paid and check in and check out dates correctly. It is also nice to have a complete list of all of the accommodations policies to read or refer to.

5. Remember, if there is a crowd you are probably in the right place and if the place you are staying has made arrangements to effectively handle more and more guests you will probably also be taken well care of. So, please relax and enjoy yourself.
